In The Market for a New Car? Five Vehicles With Expensive Car Insurance RatesWhen you shop for a new car or SUV, chances are you do research on fuel economy, and the price of getting a loan to put into your budget. But there are other significant costs, including maintenance and repairs, and these can have a significant impact on your car insurance quotes. Here are five of the worst offenders for high insurance rates regardless of whether you're searching for quotes in Florida, California or other states. Porsches and Mercedes Dominate the ListAny of the AMG models by Mercedes offer ridiculous power and acceleration for almost every price point above about $100,000. Not surprisingly, these high-performance cars, and their compatriots at Jaguar and BMW also cost a lot to insure, from $2,800 to more than $3,500 in the case of some AMG models. In addition to the fact that sportier models are more likely to be driven more aggressively, insurance companies also factor in the high cost of original equipment replacement parts. It's not surprising that these cars are on the list at the upper end of insurance rates; if you pay more for a car, you should probably expect to pay more for insurance on replacement costs alone. But it seems, according to Insure.com's analysis of 2011 model year cars and their rates that it's not sedans or compact cars that are the least expensive to insure. Want a New Car with a Cheap Car Insurance Quote? Go SUVSince SUVs ride higher off the ground, they provide drivers with more visibility. And outside of potential rollovers, they tend to do better in crashes because they're simply bigger. And if you're not interesed in a minivan, with the Chrysler Town and Country, Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey being the cheapest vehicles to insure, then it is off to the SUVs. Specifically, the Nissan Murano and the Ford Escape are the fifth and ninth least expensive vehicles to insure if you buy the 2011 models, costing less than $1,200 per year when the states are averaged out. Other compact SUVs also do well on the list. It's all worth keeping in mind if you're in the market for a new car and are worried about insurance bills, too.
